When I woke up Monday morning, I struggled to decide when to take my motion sickness pills. I didn't want to take them first thing every morning and never know if I truly became seasick on a cruise boat, but I also didn't want to not take them and get so sick. I decide to just take them first thing and then we took our time getting ready for breakfast.
We headed upstairs from our deck 5 room to deck 12 for breakfast in the buffet. I started feeling very queasy and ate 1 pancake (I think less, but my plate looks clean in the picture). As we were leaving, Marcel stopped to grab another bowl and I told him I couldn't wait, I needed to get to our room ASAP before throwing up. At breakfast time, the elevators were busy. I was afraid I wasn't going to make it to our room so I went to the restrooms nearest to the elevator and tried to wait it out. I decided I really wasn't going to get sick, but wanted to be laying down 5 minutes ago :) When I was finally waiting for the elevators a group of people were laughing at the puke bags the crew had placed by the elevators and I wanted to punch them for being so inconsiderate of those of us who were getting seasick.
Marcel beat me back to our room and waited for me. I ate a small box of dry fruit loops and then slept away the morning.
and woke up feeling much better. It was at this point that Marcel told me that his teacher friends all told him not to let me take my medicine on an empty stomach, which I had. Lesson learned.
We saw 2 housekeeping carts completely tip over from the waves. A couple we met on our tender boat on "private island day" go on 3+ cruises a year with Norwegian, told us that in the midst of the storm we hit, we also encountered a 40+ foot wave. The pool had to be drained (and thus closed) and all the crew were commenting that seas weren't normally that rough. One of the channels on our tv was a weather channel that told us wave height: The highest we saw it get to on this day, out of the few times we were in our room and watching it, was 14.8 feet.
Pictures we Marcel took of the waves. This 1st picture is from the morning, which don't look as bad
This picture is from lunch when I felt fine and not seasick.
I froze this day. I was so excited for the BAHAMAS part of our trip that I didn't think much about packing for the first few days of our cruise. Don't I look like I feel better?
Marcel ate a shrimp salad sandwich with sweet potato fries
and I had a club sandwich and potato chips. For my appetizer I had chicken noodle soup, which was the BEST chicken noodle I've ever had. We even went back to Grand Pacific (restaurant) later in the week just so I could have more
I also decided that chocolate ice cream was just what the doctor ordered!
and apparently the doctor told Marcel he could also have some strawberry ice cream
After lunch we found our first towel animal:
and then spent some time in the casino. We each took $5 with us. I lost mine pretty quickly, but as seen in this picture, Marcel at one point was at $17.74, but he got greedy and lost it all.
Then we spent some time wandering the ship...
and taking self portraits
This night was "Formal or Not Night" so we decided to be somewhere in the middle and dress up nice for dinner. So while I got cute, Marcel slept with said towel animal
I love us!
We went to Tequila, the mexican restaurant that wasn't included in our room/board price. It wasn't the fanciest of restaurants they had but we knew we'd love the food and we got a great seat by the window. As long as I was facing forward I didn't get sick.
I'm so lucky he's my husband!
Marcel ate crab tacos
and for the first time in my entire life, I ordered fajitas at a restaurant. On this day, I tried guacamole (which I eat now), sour crea, refried beans, crab meat & cheese dip (NASTY!) and a vegetable spring roll.
After dinner, we headed to the theater to see the production "World Beat". It was a really good show. Next, we played Deal or No Deal.
Here was our unlucky ticket. All we won was a free on-board lottery ticket that wasn't a winner :(
Our cruise director (and DOND host) Big Ken
We ended the night with a soak in the jacuzzi, which was perfect!
